10 Weeks to go
Only 10 weeks until the Boston Half marathon. My training strategy is simple, 3 runs a week, each different and designed to train me in a different way.
The first run of the week on Mon or Tue is my strength and speed training. Most weeks I run on a track with the Somerville Road Runners club, but if I can't make the training I try to run a short but fast race, usually about 3 miles.
The second run of the week on Wed or Thu is my medium distance run. I'm trying to run at a medium pace over a 4-5 mile distance
Friday is a rest day, and then Saturday or Sunday is my long run day. I will gradually increase this distance until I get to 12/13 miles (Half Marathon Distance). Long runs are run for distance, not for speed at all, so my times will be a lot slower.
Next week I have a 7 mile race in Falmouth, MA by the beach, but over the last week I have:
Tue: Ran 5 miles at a 7:15 pace.
Thu: Ran 4 miles at a 7:25 pace.
Sat: Run 7 miles at a 8:37 pace.
